Our Journey
What We Offer
The Hart House Student Art Committee, founded in 1922, serves as an accessible and inclusive community of contemporary art enthusiasts who curate the walls and halls of Hart House. Not only do we serve the originating purpose of the committee, to acquire new and innovative works of Canadian art to be incorporated in the House’s collection, but the goals of the committee have broadened to serve as an avenue for further education and opportunity for student artists, critics, and art historians. The committee curates student exhibitions and events, organizes studio visits with Toronto-based artists and trips to prominent local galleries, hosts workshops and art conferences and acquires new work for the Hart House Collection.
Since 2021, Hart House Student Art Committee is comprised of three Subcommittees: Acquisitions, Student Projects, and Education and Outreach.

We offer University of Toronto students from all three campuses to explore the art scene in Toronto, gain curatorial experience, and be part of art acquisitions processes from start to finish. By being part of the Art Committee students will gain leadership skills, how to organize large community events, learn the financial processes behind acquisitions and art exhibitions, as well as outreach skills in organizing workshops and conferences with professional artists.

Students participating in our events and opportunities will have the chance to showcase their artistic talents, how to interpret themes and interpret in their art and learn skills from professional artists. Most importantly students will be given a platform at UofT to express their artistic voices and make meaningful connections with like-minded students.
