HHArtC Montréal Trip
November 2023

In November 2023, the executives of the Hart House Art Committee embarked on their first official trip on behalf of the Committee. During a three-day visit to Montréal, they explored local galleries and art museums, focusing particularly on Indigenous art and artists from Canada. The trip aligned with Hart House’s mission to elevate awareness and shift narratives surrounding Indigenous art and its significance in Canadian culture. This educational initiative also prepared the Acquisitions subcommittee for the upcoming acquisitions cycle in collaboration with the Hart House Art Museum.

Over the course of the trip, the executives visited seven galleries and museums, engaging with artists, resident researchers, gallery owners, and curators. Beyond gaining a comprehensive understanding of Montréal’s art scene, the team strengthened internal relationships.

The trip was a multifaceted art experience to educate students not only about art practices but also gave insights to the professional workings of the art industry, its many participants and complicated processes.
